Terms of Service
Effective date: 9/18/25
Summary
Flashpaper is a simple one-time secret sharing service. We make a best-effort attempt to protect your data, but there are limits:
- Do not use this service for life-or-death or nation-state–threat scenarios.
- Secrets are encrypted at rest and in transit, but not end-to-end.
- Anyone with the secret link can view the secret — treat links like passwords.
- We may suspend or remove access in cases of abuse or legal requirement.
- This service is operated from the United States and is not directed to users in the EU, EEA, or UK.
Introduction
Welcome to Flashpaper. By using this service, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use Flashpaper.
Eligibility
- You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction) to use Flashpaper.
- This service is operated from the United States and is not directed to individuals in the EU, EEA, UK, or other jurisdictions with GDPR-like laws.
- By using Flashpaper, you represent that you are not located in those regions.
Description of the Service
Flashpaper provides one-time secret sharing. Secrets are encrypted on our servers, stored in ciphertext form only, and automatically deleted after expiration or upon burn-after-read. While we use strong security practices, Flashpaper is not end-to-end encrypted and should not be relied on for life-or-death scenarios.
User Responsibilities
- Do not upload content that is illegal, abusive, or harmful.
- Do not use Flashpaper to distribute malware, spam, or other malicious content.
- Do not attempt to attack, disrupt, or abuse the service.
- Treat secret URLs like passwords; anyone with the link may view the secret.
Security Disclaimer
Flashpaper makes a best-effort attempt to protect your secrets: ciphertext only at rest, TLS in transit, no plaintext written to disk, and atomic burn-after-read deletion. However:
- We are not end-to-end encrypted; our servers perform the encryption and decryption.
- If an attacker gained privileged access to our servers, secrets without passphrases could be exposed.
- We cannot guarantee protection against highly resourced adversaries such as nation states.
No Warranty
Flashpaper is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Flashpaper and its operators shall not be liable for any damages arising from your use of the service. In no case will our liability exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the flashpaper service in the last 12 months, or (b) $100.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the service at our discretion, including in cases of abuse, legal requirements, or security concerns.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new Effective date.
